My first encounter with theater was when I was 10 years old, in Rome. I was part of a junior theater troupe for an year and at the end we staged the play ''L'Avare'' by Moliere. I rember I was very nervous because I had to play a very small part (as a man) but it was really exciting. Later in my life I haven't had nearly any theater related experiences, exept going to theater to watch different plays in my hometown. I had a small part in a movie and did some commercials, I have always preffered cinema than theatre. What I learned is that it is very important to do something you actually enjoy doing as a profession. I found that being surrounded by people, who make me feel comfortable is crucial for the wellbeing of my soul.
L'Avare, Moliere
Hamlet, W. Shakespeare
Romeo and Julliet, W. Shakespeare
Macbeth, W. Shakespeare
Midsummer Night's Dream, W. Shakespeare
4:48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane
From everything I have read (it's not much, but as I said I always preffered cinema) I was most impressed by "4:48 Psychosis'' because of the strange, heavy and depressing character of that play, and since I knew that this was Sarah Kane's last play, before she commited suicide. My favourite part, the one that I still remember vividly, is the one where she enlists various symptoms and diagnosis and then the medicines she was prescribed and how they affected her. I struggled to imagine how that play would look on stage and that is what I found most intriguing about it.
The dialectics of the theater, B. Brecht
I admit that I haven't read any texts on theater, except this essey, which I found very interesting. I really liked the idea of transformation, how the human being enjoys change through the art, through life and through the art of life and how this constant change must be reflected in theater in order for it to be up to date.
Generally in my life I try not to have expectations, but I hope to learn Portuguese (I apologize for my inability to write this auto-presentation in Portuguese, I didn't want to use google translate as I don't find it very reliable).
I also hope I will learn more about theater in general, its history, structure and important playwrights. I'm looking forward to learning new things that I don't even know exist.
